Say It Isn't So

HBO plays this movie about 5 times a day at 800-824 channels. I just found out that the storyline of this movie and the Oedipus is very similar. Gilly is the orphan and Jo becomes his girlfriend. They engage after many happy days. In the first day they had a sex, Gilly got a call that his real mother was found. And Jo and Gilly find that they have same parents. Suddenly Gilly becomes a sister slammer, and Jo left to her ex-boyfriend because she got shocked and wanted to forget what happened. After she left, months later, Gilly and the parents find out that it was a mistake and Gilly was not their son. Anyway, the story is focused on how society and people react about having a sex with his own sister. Even though Gilly couldn't even think that Jo would be his sister, others (even the parents) think he is disgusting. he didn't mean it, he didn't know it.. all this stuffs don't matter to the society. In Oedipus, he also had a sex with his mother without knowing she was his mother. And Oedipus also take the situation really seriously and harm himself. These genres of stories are so different, because this movie tried to make audience laugh, and Oedipus is supposed to be sad and tragical. But the topic was really similar though.
