Avoiding the Truth
There is this reality tv show that I've been watching called "Jersey Shore" that talks about a group of people who goes off to Jersey Shore and Miami partying and enjoying their summer vacation. There are these characters whose friend of a girl name Sammi and while being in a club partying, all the members from the reality show sees Sammi's boyfriend Ronnie going up on all the other girls in the club and being extremely flirtatious. The other girls in the show could not stand the fact that hes going behind Sammi's back and cheating on her and had the strong urge to let Sammi know about this--however they did not want to be the girls who spread rumors out and hurt Sammi's feelings. This type of example relates to Oedipus where the Shepherd (I believe) avoids the truth about Oedipus killing his father and tries not to let Oedipus know about this. Toward the end, the girls from Jersey shore ends up typing an anonymous letter to Sammi about the truth whereas, the Shepherd ends up confronting to Oedipus and telling Oedipus the truth that he was the one who actually killed his father, King Laius.
