Last week I had a group presentation in one of my AAS classes. The class is all about Indian epics: Ramayana and Mahabharata. Now, one might feel that it would be boring to read these long texts. Well, as a matter of fact thats not true. Cos we dont have to read them at all. The way the class syllabus is designed is very inspiring. Obviously it is not a story telling class. So, its not that the professor keeps reading the text while other fellas are asleep. On the other hand, the class is all about discussions. We dont concentrate on the texts. We pay attention to logic and reasons behind these epics.
And, this last week our final project was to pick 1 character of Ramayana or Mahabharata, write about his characterstics, weaknesses and strengths. Then we had to compare this particular character to any modern day personality. I enjoyed it to the core. Many people drew very apt comparisons. And ones that I never thought off. So by introducing such projects we can make the learning process lovable.
