There are several myths about the story of the flood in many countries. The story of the flood is based on many real events of flood, and it shows us a severe disaster of the nature. Not only that, but the flood is an interesting theme, and it is connected many symbols such as just simple nature disaster, the subversion of humankind, or punishment. The Noah's Ark in Bible, Gilgamesh Epoth, Greek myth, and Matsya of Hindu Puranas are the examples of the flood myths. We can classify many kinds of the flood stories, and these different kinds of flood stories have their own character. The flood myths can be classified by 4 types that are type of punishment, type of noticing, type of accidental occurrence, type of a water control. The type of punishment is the most common concept of the flood story. Generally, the humankind is not perfect and they are full of greed and arrogance, therefore the God gets angry and makes the flood to punish the people. For example, Egypt, Ancient Babylonia, and Greece Hebrew myths are the stories which are the type of punishment. The next one is the type of noticing, that is similar to the type of punishment but there is no punish element. The India, Persia myths are included in this type. In the India myth, Manu became the ancestor of human who got the notice from the Visnu and made the ship for avoiding the disaster. The third type is the type of accidental occurrence, whose main reason for the flood is an accidental incident. Therefore it is not the God who occur the flood, and this type includes Polynesia, South America myths. The last type is the type of a water control. It focuses to the water control instead of the flood itself, and the China myth is included in this type.
