View to Academic Integrity

When it comes to 'Academic Integrity ', I really want to say something after I searched the definition of 'academic integrity ' online --- "academic integrity exists when students and faculty seek knowledge honestly, fairly, with mutual respect and trust, and accept responsibility for their actions and the consequences of those actions (UCDAVIS, 2008) ". First of all, I think that academic dishonesty is kind of less confidence. In my opinion, students may suffer much pressure intending to get good GPA without hard working that cause them to consider cheating on their homework and tests. However, good students never do this because the trust themselves and they think they are definitely able to finish their test by themselves. Here is a true story, Xian, one of my friends who took CHE 131 and ESE 124 with me last semester, and he wasn't studying hard in chemistry class. He begged me to copy my homework before the due date. It is kind of difficult to refuse him because of our friendship. But, for the electric engineering course, he was a talent in that class and he didn't ask me for help anymore . The reason is that he had confidence, he knew it was easy to got A in that class. Thus, hard working students cheat less. Secondly, for my personal view, enforcing punishments for cheaters is good method to avoid academic dishonesty. Some students are still willing to take a risk of copying homework because if they succeed, they will get good grades and if they got caught, they will just get a warning at most. However, most of them will hesitate to cheat in midterm and final because if they are caught, they will fail this class at least. Therefore, students will avoid academic dishonesty when they know the serious consequence. In general, I totally agree with academic integrity. After my hard working with my subjects, I believe that I can get good grades. What's more, I'm looking forward useful knowledge during my college time.
