Aaron D. Neufeld- BLOG #14- ‘Memory Alley’
For my film, I decided that instead of simply a museum displaying the photos of my family as if they were exhibits, I would create an alleyway or a hallway. I envision myself, or any person, standing at one end of the alley. As you enter the alley, a photo lay against one wall on either side. This is the earliest family photo. The deeper into the alley you walk, the more recent the photos become, as more of my family’s story has been told. The alley represents a timeline or a path through the mind.
Beneath or in front of each photo, objects lay in the alley. These objects are not so superficial as they each represent something having to do with the photo. The objects bring another dimension to the story being told by the photos.
The alleyway takes one from the past to the present, displaying an array of objects that are incorporated into my family’s history and their overall story. It is a journey through time, through history and through my family’s past. There is much to be said about my family and the memory alley best tells their story.
