Aaron D. Neufeld- BLOG #23- ‘Does White Collar Drive Us To Blue Collar?’

White-collar jobs are what everyone strives for. White collar was the American dream. People flocked to the United States from around the world in search of establishing themselves here. Everyone wanted it. Today however, it seems that white-collar jobs may actually drive people to blue-collar jobs.

White-collar jobs since the advent and advancement of modern technology consists largely of sitting in front of a computer screen for hours and hours every day. When one is not sitting at a screen, they are dealing with paperwork and books. This is white-collar work of the 21st century. These white-collar workers are almost motionless. There is no movement involved in their activities. Modern white-collar work can drive people insane. Because of this, many white-collar workers want to do. They want physical challenges to keep them going. They feel a drive to be hands on and partake in building, welding, etc. Other white-collar workers, who don’t want the physical work, are driven instead to be active in other extreme ways like driving a motorcycle or skydiving.

The blue-collar lifestyle is a lot more tempting than it once was. But neither collar is as clear as before. White and blue collars often merge when dealing with modern technology. Either collar is a good collar, as long as one can escape the pink collar of jobs that were traditionally and originally filled by women that are almost impossible to advance in.
