Audiences have been around as long as theater has. Without an audience what would be the point of theater? The future of the audience and how to get their attention is something needs to be answered, but it is also something that I not easily answered.
During lecture, Prof. Baldwin stated that attention is something that is hard to take hold of nowadays. For instance, it’s pretty obvious when you begin talking to someone and they get a text message while you are talking they become distracted quite easily. Frankly, I find it blatantly rude; but it shows how easily attention can be lost.
I think that the audience has to somehow engage with the production before them in a way that has not done before. That is why I think stand up comedy is so entertaining, because it allows the audience to in a sense become part of the show.
