This was Bruce Lee’s philosophy. Quite the opposite of what you usually hear from the average stony brook student. I sometimes worry about where the U.S. is heading. We were able to surpass the rest of the world for most of the 20th century, largely because we had scientists and engineers creating airplanes, televisions, computers etc… giving us technology that the whole world wanted. Stony Brook is supposed to be a top science school, but I can’t remember one instance of hearing someone say that their goal in life was to create or discover something revolutionary. The professor mentioned in class how the difference between us and Harvard students is that we look for job and they create jobs. I guess this just stems from our culture of non-stop entertainment and instant gratification. I’m not really sure what would change this.
