I found this story recently in the NY times: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/28/business/28borker.html?_r=1
A man in brooklyn, who ran a scam eye glass repair website, realized that google ranks a business on its search engine based how many online reviews there are for that business, regardless of whether the reviews were positive. Because of this, he started regularly calling his customers and harrassing them without provocation, hoping that they would write reviews for his website, so that his ranking would improve. And apparently his strategy worked. This is yet another example of how the internet has created new, often easy ways of committing crimes.
