Yes, this is a picture of an actual place, it is an island in southern Yemen. Sometimes called the "most alien place on earth", 1/3 of its plant and animal species are only found on the island. The crazy looking trees are actually called dragons blood trees. I'm not sure why this place isn't more famous, it's incredibly beautiful. Perhaps it's due to the lack of tourism in Yemen, which I suppose is often thought of as a backwards country. on the other hand, the people on the island perhaps are worried that if too many people start visiting, it could destroy the undisturbed ecosystem.
