Learning from mistakes (its too late)

The human characters from RUR learns their mistakes at the end of their race, taken over by the robots. I think its a principle with everybody. The best example comes from a life of a college student. Now that we're supposed to take finals and we failed, we regret. We think "if i could go back in time... for only about 3 months", and believe that things would've been different too. It could be true, but most likely it is not. We learn from our mistakes, but how often do we really change? Didn't we regret the same thing about taking finals last semester? And we're still here doing this "last minute" thing right now (the blogs too...). Maybe we just never learn anything from our mistakes. It is great to learn and change, but it seems like when we learn it, we don't change anything.
So going back to RUR, would humans would've changed anything, if they knew that they made a big mistake before the robots took over? Less likely. They would try to make more adjustments to change the functions of robots, but they won't ever destroy the models, because of their "economic" benefits and possibilities. So, I really think that we never learn.
