I doubt Hamlet had trouble w/ Rent
The other day I was looking through a real estate pamphlet with a bunch of apartment listings. I confirmed my earlier thoughts about high rent for small areas and grew a little angry. The fact that a basement apartment costs over twelve hundred dollars is infuriating especially to a young college student working full time. I don't know if it's always been like this on long Island but how in the heck do young people start their adult lives in such an expensive area. I understand economy of scale and how a certain percentage of your monthly income will go towards your rent but how does anyone get ahead in these circumstances. I'm sure greed plays a part in the housing market and banks need to make their money back but this is just unattainable in a young person's eyes. I almost understand why people run to the altar to get married so the second income is there for them. This leads me to my next decision. My future most likely not take place on Long Island but rather abroad. I see myself going down south or possibly in the mid-west to grow as an individual. The job market is tight on Long Island and these other parts of the country have a lot to offer young educated students. Until then I will continue to grind out this fast paced Long Island lifestyle and finish my degree. I realize now that life has plateaus but I refuse to admit that it has ceilings.
