Aaron D. Neufeld- BLOG #21- ‘Body Art’

Body art is underrated. Every single day, we are exposed to body art in one form or another. Not everyone has artistic talents. Not everyone can paint beautiful meadows or detailed faces. Not everyone can sketch a caricature. Not everyone can make a movie out of a 3d model of a museum in Google sketch up (cough cough.) However, what anybody can do, is express themselves with their own body, and sometimes even with the body of others.

Body art can be seen in many different works of art. There may be a painting of a naked woman, showing off her body. The statue of David is a very prominent piece of modern art. Then aside from paintings and sculptures, special exhibits like the one we discussed in class that took place at the Museum of Modern Art, are prime examples of body art. Naked bodies simply standing in place for hours, or a woman spread eagle hanging above the heads of those who enter—that is real body art.

But another type of body art that one may not expect is one that we see daily! Ear rings, nose rings, tongue and lip rings, body piercings of all sorts, tattoos, hair dye, hair styles, beards, mustaches, and even breast implants can all be viewed as forms of body art. Men and women alike can alter their bodies in various ways to express themselves and be artistic with their very own bodies.
