Why We Buy Asian Cars

I noticed that many people prefer to buy Asian cars nowadays. That is partly because of high gas prices which lead consumers to buy fuel efficient cars. It happens to be that Asian car companies make more fuel efficient and better (in many aspects) cars than their American competitor companies. There are many people who would probably disagree with me. But, that ok because this is my opinion and my take on Asian cars is based on my interpretation and observation. There are plenty of new cars and old cars to choose from (Asian and American) but nowadays people tend to choose Asian cars than ever before. Why is that? Why is it that such a great and advance country like America is even subject to fierce competition from foreign car companies that are easily dominating the automobile market in America? There is nothing wrong with competition and in fact, competition is productive. However, the reasons that Asian cars are more popular is because American car companies don’t design cars with fuel efficiency and attractive style as much as their competitors.

The designers and engineers of American automobiles are not very concerned with efficiency as much as they are concerned about luxury and powerful engines. V8 engines, luxurious, heavy, and gas guzzling cars are produced by American companies. That trend was only modified within the past few years due to high gas prices and the economic recession. Gas prices sky rocketed and at the same time economy started to suffer. People bought less and saved as much as they can and in the process people started buy cars that were the least expensive and most efficient. That is why people started buying Asian cars such as Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, and Nissan over Cadillac, Chevy, GMC, and Ford, etc.

In addition to loosing car sales to its Asian competitors, American car company such as Chrysler filed for bankruptcy during the recession. Notice the difference- none of the foreign car companies filed for bankruptcy even though the automobile industry as a whole suffered from the recession. I think that it is understood that Asian car companies make more affordable, efficient, and stylish cars that are desirable, sought, and bought compared to most American cars. People choose Asian cars because they are just as good in terms of durability, capability, and the advantage of buying an Asian car is that usually the Asian car is cheaper and more efficient even when compared to a comparable American car model.

I am not saying that we should only buy Asian cars- I was pointing out why more people buy Asian cars over American Cars.

I like some American cars such as the new Buick sedan and the Dodger Charger besides the Corvette and Mustang.
