The reason why everyone from random places in this state or even country as a whole knows about Levittown is because of the way it was created. An "assembly line" method of building houses. Had I grown up here in the 50's, 60's or even 70's, I probably would have a better grasp of everything looking the same. However, from the 70's onward, people built extensions on their homes. They added garages, dormers and what not. In the 80's my parents lived in Levittown in a traditional, unmodified Levitt house. However, it was cheaper for them to move to Seaford (where I grew up) rather than add a dormer. My boyfriend currently lives in unmodified Levitt house. Everything about the structure of his home is entirely original. Essentially, it's a square. You walk through the front door and you're immediately in the kitchen, turn left to the living room or go straight into a small room, bathroom or master bedroom. The upstairs has two rooms and a closet. Honestly, this type of house would be ideal for a newly married couple; so the layout/architecture of it makes a great deal of sense., however boring it may seem.
I have a love/hate relationship with this town. Considering I went to school here, most of my friends live here and my boyfriend lives here, I do call Levittown my hometown. If anyone has anything negative to say about it, I will always defends its honor even though 75% of the time I wish I am somewhere else. It's not a bad place to live. It just IS the definition of suburbia.
