Mother Courage
"Mother Courage" is story about a mother trying to support and protect her family by dealing arms to both sides during the thirty years war. Courage would switch the flag based on which troops is heading towards her house so she would be seen as an ally instead of the enemy. All three of her children died during the war because of her stubborness and selfishness. Her oldest son, Eilif, died because of his bravery. He joined the army and than was executed because of the raids that he did in a town. Swiss Cheese died because of his honestly. Swiss Cheese died because he was caught by the Catholic army for helping the enemy. Courage had a chance to bribe a colonel by giving him 200 guiders but later decided to only give the colonel 120 guiders because she didn't want to loose that much profit in her business. Finally her daughter, Kattrin died because of her kindness. At the end of the story, Kattrin died because she was saved the town by secretly climbing on top a roof and beating on a drum to warn there is a sneak attack from the Catholics. Courage could have saved her if she wasn't off to buy supplies for the war.
