Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in Fire
Some say Ice
From what I've tasted of Desire
I hold with those who favor Fire
But if I had to perish twice
I think I know enough of Hate
To say that for destruction Ice
Is also great
And would suffice
~Robert Frost

This is my absolute favorite poem. I first heard it in the 6th grade and I fell in love with it. I think it has to do with love and hate that people feel. When he talks about the world ending I think its sort of how something will overtake you as a person. "I hold with those who favor fire" means that he prefers to be overtaken by love and passion. But its also possible to be overtaken by hate (ice). Both of these things are very powerful and can do a lot of damage to a person whether its good or bad. Everyone knows love and hate and they know that both can destroy a person especially if they are strong enough.
