realism and the documentary films
The realism is the term that reproduction of the objective fact as it is. And the documentary films show the facts about a person or event. It drags the sense and feeling about the fact out. Also it helps the audience to understanding the fact and the event. Realism and documentary film: the objective fact is represented precisely based on the realism. On the other hands, in the documentary films, many other factors are included, for example, people’s sense, opinion, thought and various perspectives about the fact. Also, in terms of the news media, they edit the objective facts or events as their intention. They edit it as what they want people to think. Therefore, there is a lot of possibility of manipulating the people’s consciousness. And for all that the documentary films contain a clear sense and feeling of the people, the news media could produce and make distortion of the fact and truth. The change that occurred to me of the way I had previously interpreted Katrina due to the reproduction of tragic and horrific images in When the Levees Broke is that I thought the Katrina is just a natural disaster until now, but when I listened the opinion and feeling of the people concerned the Katrina, I was moved and felt sorry about that. By appreciating how they feel, I had some sympathy with their point of view and the situation.
