I did not know how to swim until I attempted to do it in a YMCA pool. It was fun swimming but I did not actually learn how to swim properly because the pool was not deep at all and I would balance myself or stop in the middle and then go to the other side. Basically, I did not know how to float in water and was not able to swim in deep area. One day during this semester, my friends decided to swim in the sports complex swimming pool. I didn’t know that the pool was very deep in the middle to the other side and when I started swimming, for an hour I was swimming back and forth and did not swim to the other side of the pool because I was afraid of not being able to swim over the deep part of the pool since I was not able to float. Eventually, I started to swim easily and without feeling tired or running out of breath and standing in the pool. Then I suddenly just decided to keep swimming forward nonstop and swam to the other side. That was a very good feeling because I was very scared to swim over the deep part and I was able to do it without making a scene and having to be rescued. I felt like I actually learned how to swim “instantly” for the first time and confidently swim back and forth from both sides of the pool. This reminded me of how I learned how to ride a bike without training wheels in a few hours but I felt very good about it because I actually was sacred to swim when I was very young.
