Why does the media make us believe crack dealers are rich?
Crack dealers do not need to fill out a job application. Because crack cocaine is a black market product, prospective drug merchants do not need a college degree, or any level of education. In fact, crack-dealing policies are so liberal that no business credentials are required whatsoever. Previous work experience may be considered, but it is also unnecessary. Even resumes aren’t needed. Both highly addictive and relatively cheap, crack cocaine essentially sells itself. World renowned hip-hop emcee Jay-Z embellishes how competent a crack dealer he is in his 2001 hit single, U Don’t Know, “I sell ice in the winter, I sell fire in hell. I am a hustler baby, I'll sell water to a well”. Furthermore, Jay-Z embellishes his prodigious earnings as a crack-dealer. So too do other rappers, along with many Hollywood directors. The entertainment medium has presented an upscale, luxurious portrait of dealing crack. In reality, selling crack is the antithesis of what these imaginative Hollywood directors and hip-hop artists would have us believe.
