Make Up, the Alternative to a Mask

I was just doing some online shopping a couple of minutes ago and I had went to the Sephora website to check out the make up products when I realized why do girls put on make up. I believe that applying make up is very similar to wearing a mask. It's sad to think that girls wear make-up only to cover their own face that was given to them. And it's all due to low self-esteem. We look at models and celebrities and admire them and push ourselves to look like them. Also, some guys can be very shallow and a girl's outer appearance is important to most of them because that is what they first see in a girl. You can't see personality. Also competition plays a role. As humans we are all competitive. We compete for everything including attention and guys or girls. Make up can enhance your chances of getting a job or a significant other. As much as we would like to deny it, people look at the outer appearance of a person during job interviews and how they present themselves. Especially for jobs at bars and places where there is face to face communication with consumers, appearance is very important. It is just sad how we have to cover up ourselves in order to succeed more in society or avoid being made fun of or judged. Just like how in the move Onibaba the warrior had the mask on because he was ashamed to show his distorted face.
