Reality Shows and the public

I was never really into any reality shows and I don’t really understand why millions of people, young and mid-age, think reality shows are so cool or entertaining. From the point of view of being entertained by the drama, fights, romantic affairs, breakups, and everything else in between, it is entertaining (to some people). Everyone acknowledges that the shows are more or less set up to a certain extent and some of the interesting things that they do or say are said or done based on what the viewers want or expect to see. It appears that many people enjoy and crave these sorts of television shows where people are doing immature/ inappropriate things. Furthermore, what is happening to the viewers, especially kids/teenagers and young adults is that subconsciously they begin to think that it is ok to act a fool, get drunk, cheat, and get into fights over stupid things.
Getting drunk, cheating, fighting and doing immature/stupid things is not something that was invented via reality shows but such behaviors are common and describe the way the characters act. I just want to make it clear that I am not stating that the characters are actually dumb or stupid, they are paid to do things and they do what they do based on what the audiences want to see and hear. So part of the reason that reality shows are they way they usually are is because that is what the viewers want. Even many people that watch such shows don’t act stupid or immature but they watch such shows simply because they think it is entertaining. However, some young people and especially young kids and adults do feel it is ok to act in such and such way because they see it on television and society does not seem to look down upon that type of behavior and actually some people that behave in such and such ways are liked by others for being that way.
I am not point a finger at reality shows and saying they should be banned because then then same thing can be said for movies that have lots of drama and violence and adult content. As there are plenty of movies among the violent/explicit one’s, reality shows can be made that are inspirational. The funny thing is that, if they had 2 different reality shows where one of them is about getting drunk, having fun, and being reckless, whereas the other one is about college students preparing for the real world, the one with the drama and such will continue and be popular and the other will have much less views and be cancelled. That was not the best example, but what I am saying is that without drama and reckless behavior, it will not be a successful show. That is why the reality shows are the way they are…..and apparently many many people like that sort of shows very much although they know some of it is absolutely fake and setup.
