Tristan and Isolde

In the movie ‘Tristan and Isolde’, the young knight and the queen fall in love with each other. Even after the girl married the King and became a queen, they missed each other so much so they meet secretly in the woods at night. This is a part of their conversation.

Isode : How many did you love before me?
Tristan : None.
Isode : …and after me?
Tristan : None.

The young knight saying that the girl is his only true love in his life sounds very romantic. On the other hand, the girl wants to keep relationship with Tristan while she still sleeps with another man – the king.
To me, this relationship between the two reminds me Hamlet and Ophelia. Generally, people think that girl should be innocent – like Ophelia was when she met Hamlet. On the other hand, in Tristan and Isode, it seems the young knight looks more like Ophelia(his innocent and pure love).
So it became the topic of our group, the gender change in the relationship between Hamlet and Ophelia.
