I was reading a chapter for my children and adolescent psychology class when I read a section on imitation. It talked about how early in life infants and children do most of their learning through observational learning and imitation, where the child watches another perform a certain task and tries to mimic it. In this sense we all can relate to mimesis. How many times have we seen someone do something, and say to ourselves "Hey, I can do that too"? When you attempt to do whatever the other individual did, you use their way of doing it as a basis for you to put your own twist on.
We also imitate in other senses. It isn't exactly imitating but if you see someone fail at something you learn through observation to not make those same mistakes. You are imitating the certain task being done a different way to obtain a successful result. If I see someone pick up a pan and burn themselves, I'll be sure to put on gloves when I lift up the pan. In this sense mimesis is one of the most relatable themes in Aristotle's poetics.
