Class ended

Yes, that's it, our theater 103 class official ended with the show in New York. Four months has passed in the blink of an eye. When I first decided to attend THR 103 class for a DEC class, I never thought I would have so much fun , so many good friends. I have laughed in this class more than in all of my other class combined, but as a nature law, everything has its ending. I would miss all the moments I have in this class and look forward to joint THR 480 next semester.

Crossing the street

Professor Baldwin was right when he told me NYC was going to be packed. I never saw so many people walking on the street like that before. However, my hometown city, Saigon, still dominated in term of the number of transport vehicles. If you think crossing the street is easy, have a look at those

RUR pics

The RUR play or the reading of RUR script. Whatever it was , I did enjoyed listening to it.

I just want to test out to see the different between day and night

Open Source Code

There are so many talented people out there and Mr. Hector Martin is definitely one of them. It took him only three hours to finish writing the open source kinect driver using C language. Hector is rewarded 3000 dollars for three hours of work and that is the true dream of a programmer.

Kinect application

In class, Professor Baldwin asked in what way we can use Kinect to benefit our life. I was not able to answer this question at that moment but thinking for a little while, i would say Kinect can be applied to improve the Artificial Intelligent field . It can be " the eye" of the machine, helping them to recognize the object int the surrounding environment more efficiently.

Kinect

I just want to say out loud that: I love the kinect very much. It is coolest thing to have with 150 dollars. The moment I saw its capabilities, I was shocked. Microsoft finally did it, they found the way to connect human and machine. Forget about controllers, keyboard or mouse,we are human and therefor we are lazy. Let's cut those middle guys and go straight ahead using our body to interact with the laptop.

Inferred camera

Why is it so expensive ? 1500 dollars for a common inferred camera is really high price. I would agree to that price if it is a high piece of technology or it require special materials to built but those are not the cases. Technically, every common camera can see the inferred light, the only thing you need to do is removing the inner-built filter and use a dark piece of film to block all the other light. The next step is attach two red-inferred LED together with length so that it into the object and ...woalla! Mission succeed. Apparently, some people had thought of this idea and made a really cheap inferred camera on amazon.

Seawolf market

Have anyone ever purchasec any computer accessories at Seawolf market at the SAC. I did once and i swear that would be my last. I was really in need of a computer mouse for my project and I had no choice but come to Seawolf market. There were not much varieties there, only some random mouse made by some random company. I bought one that looked the most usable and much to my suprise, it literally broke itself the moment I opened it. The hardware mechanic was designed as good as a two years old's Lego castle. What were they thinking ?

Camera

The tutorial video of making an inferred camera. Everybody like hacking their hardware up right? especially when you can not find a way to put them back together.

silly phone app idea

Anyone tired of losing your apartment key or forgetting your password to unlock a door> I was running to my room yesterday under the freezing weather. When i got to my door, what i pulled out of my pocket was my cellphone. My key was lost somewhere on the way when i run. At that moment, my only wish was to have my phone turn into my key. It's would be so much easier to keep. The phone is significant larger compare to the key. You can argue that making the key bigger can solve the problem but who want to carry a giant key around them anyway ? It's pointless to do that. I am thinking of a basic system where we have lock that receive signal from our cellphone. We can have our app store a binary combination and use as a key to decode the lock in order to open the door in a acceptable distance.

Texture of city

One of my favorite, this video won the first place in D Magazine 's Texture Of Dallas Film Fest

A robot technique with flex sensor

There are so many creative ways to use sensors in robot application. The idea was having sensor as an receiver, whenever they receive input , they would transmit information in the form of electricity current two their processor. For example, two flex sensor can be used as wall-locating divides like in the picture. They are glued to the front of the bot, when ever it hit the wall, the sensors would be bended and give out a signal for the bot to turn to other way.

window 7

Talking about the driving role of consumers in developing technology. I found a really interesting video through youtube about window 7 development

Spending the night on campus

In case you are commuter who miss the last bus of the day and have to spend one full night on campus or you just have to leave your room because your roommate invite his or her fifteen hundred friends on Facebook over for a party, you, my friend, are not alone. I have spent several nights walking around on campus due to the late night exam schedule. It can be really frustrate sometimes when you want a place to rest. I bet library is the first place everybody think of. However, you can only stay at the library until 12pm in the normal day and 3 pm in the final week. I have discovered a spot that you are guarantied to have a comfort place the whole night: the computer science building. As far as a know, the door is never closed and they have really nice couch too.

Phone app

Of all the rapid changes in computing technology, in my ideas cell phone has stood out the most. It has gone through a long way from a portable radio to multimedia device. With the creation of all the smart phones and apps application, cell phone has becomes the new goldmine for programmers or everybody with the idea. In the class, professor Baldwin has introduced so many creative way to use those app. Now we can control the our laptop, track youtube uploader in the area, or even control the stage in the theater. Is that fantastic ? the only problem left is how far your imagination can go .

Blogging

Blog is one my favorite place on the internet. It does not only give you valuable information but also shows you how other people think. My favorite part is reading other people's comments. You can see an interactive conversation right on your screen without being noticed. Is that fantastic? Yes, I know that right that's a common thing but ten years ago, it was completely unimaginable. It's is scare how technology with a right application can greatly affect our way of living.
