LAST BLOG!!!!!!! so, i just want to reminisce a bit about this class. i really enjoyed it. At first, going into it, I thought it would be extremely linear. I figured it would consist of us simply reading plays and then analyzing them. However, it was SO much more than that! Not only did we read the plays and analyze them, but we compared them to today's times and managed to get into deep discussions that tended to steer away from the topic a bit, but in the end somehow connected everything together. I also enjoyed learning a bit more about technology and how everything works. I really got to see just how vital it is to our society today, and how important it is for us, the younger generation, to keep up with all of this innovative technology, because in the future, it will run our lives (as the transition is being made right now). I enjoyed professor Baldwin's laid back attitude, and felt comfortable in the classroom. At first, I 'm not going to lie, I was a bit intimidated by him. But as the semester progressed I got used to the atmosphere in the classroom, and felt more and more comfortable. This definitley was a class that I will never forget, and I can honestly say that I am walking away from it with a lesson, more than one actually, learned. I strongly recommend this class to all students, and hope to take one of professor Baldwin's classes in the future. Sayonara everyone! :)

Vaca!

Ok so I was just packing everything to go home over break and I realized I don't really know what to bring. I mean I know the essential things like cloths, make-up, straightener, books, chargers, etc. but I feel like no matter how much I bring home I'm going to forget something. I'm excited though to like come back to my room after winter break and see it just how I left it, with posters on the wall and my things in the closet. Then go back to college life just how it was before the break, minus the finals :). One thing though that I can NOT wait is to go home and shower without sandals! Winter break here I come!

Weekend

So at this point...I've kind of run out of topics to blog about, so i'll keep on rambling. I'm really excited for this weekend, for multiple reasons. First and foremost, I'm done with finals!! Meaning, I can go home, and get to reunite with all my friends! My roommate is coming home with me tomorrow night, which is exciting. On friday I'm taking her out to the city with me. We're going to go to yoga, which I haven't done in forever, so I'm really excited for that. Then, we're going to go on a food adventure. I'm showing her all my favorite spots to eat in the city. We'll mostly be downtown, that's where I always hang out. LOVE that part of the city, it's all hipsters and students and the fashion scene is great. No one really conforms there and everything is jsut so unique. Can't wait to be back there again.

Also, on Saturday, my friend and her mom are taking a bunch of us out for dinner at this amazing restaraunt in the city. Sadly, I'm a vegetarian (for now at least) and won't be able to have the BEST food there, but I'll manage. Hope everyone enjoys their weekends! :)

Starbucks?

So just heard that they are about to renovate the Starbucks on campus soon? I really hope this is just a rumor because it would be wrong for so many reasons...

a) I'm sure I'm not the only one that LOVES Starbucks and needs a dose of it every once in a while

b) They just hired around20 extra people to work there. What are they supposed to do now?

Just putting that one out there....I REALLY! hope that they decide to renovate sometime over summer break. keeping my fingers crossed!

SNOW?!

When is it going to snow? Though I hate the winter, I always get excited about the first snowfall, then I kind of get over the season...regardless...I'm waiting for that very first storm!!! I'm going to Toronto next month, that already have a bunch of snow, and have been getting snow days...so excited! I hate how in the city you only have a snow day for one day, since the city clears all the snow by next morning :( why can't they just shut the city down for a few days and let everyone have just a bit of fun?!

What is Friendship???

My roommate and I were talking about friendship and how you learn who your real friends are. People you will learn eventually in life use you. Then when your not needed anymore what they really feel about you comes out and you find out that all along they just used you for a ride or for money. Unfortunately my roommate found this out today about her friends back home. What I then told her is what I'm sure everyone has said before, your true friends walk in when the rest of the world walks out. A code that every girl should follow is that you NEVER choose your best friends ex over her. That is probably one of the lowest things a "friend" could do.

Legal drinking age

I just got into a discussion with a friend of mine about the legal drinking age in this country. The US is the only country whose drinking age is 21+. I feel that this is ridiculous, considering the fact that by 18 we are considered to be legal and can do basically everything else, including being able to vote and being able to enlist in the army. Isn't it reasonable to say that if we are wise enough to choose the leaders of our nation that we can make wise decisions about drinking. Or what about the fact that we can go into the army and kill our enemies, but no, we can't order a drink at a bar. I feel that by passing such laws the government is contradicting themselves. If we have the chance to make such serious decisions, we can make decisions about drinking. If what the government is worried about is the accidents that may occur if they let 18 year olds drink, then they need to check the statistics and see that just as many legal age drinkers get into accidents, if not more. I feel that if the government allowed us to drink than we would be more responsible with this provilage and would not abuse it.

Random Blog

So it's nearly 2am and I'm trying to finish my blogs. After this one i think I'll have 8 left? I think this will be the last one for the night, considering that I can't think of any topics to blog on, so I'll just ramble on for a bit right now. I have a final tomorrow, my last one. It's also my hardest one though, BIO, not really my thing. I studied a lot though, so hopefully I'll do well! Can't wait for this week to be over, wish it were saturday. My friend and her mom invited a bunch of us to this restaraunt in the city, with AMAZING food. We already pre ordered everything. Just thinking about it now is making me extremely hungry...agh!! Anyway, should probably get to bed....I'll finish up with the blogs tomorrow!

Hamlet Game

A game based on Hamlet. Different from ours, in that it involves mostly puzzles. However, it does tell the players (the audience) the basics of the famous play.

Events in the City

The experience this weekend has inspired me to go out and see more events in the city. Though I am from the city, I often take it for granted, and don't attend as many events as I can. However, seeing this show this past weekend, has reminded me just how much I LOVE attending such performances. I am a huge fan of the arts and truly want to go out and see what my favorite city has to offer. The magazine, "The New Yorker", is constantly listing current events in the city, and I plan on attending a few during the upcoming break. I know that I am bound to attend something that will fascinate me, for the city always has something interesting to offer! I can't wait to see the newest events that are being presented in the city, and what they have to offer!

Hamlet Skins

I had a great time at the long awaited Hamlet show this past weekend. It was interesting to see what the others had prepared and had been working so hard on. I enjoyed watching the live performance of Hamlet play out right before my eyes. I enjoyed seeing how technology played a major role in the production as well. It changed the structure of the play, and made it more malleable. It added a unique twist to the play that I had not been expecting. I hope to see more plays like this, that involve the use of technology, but not only in the hands of the producers, but the audience as well.
However, though i found it interesting to see the production play out in such an innovative way, I was also happy to see some old school methods being used as well. The grad students and their performance of "R.U.R" used simple methods that have been used for many years. I found the simplicity of their performance to be intriguing, and was surprised when I realized that even shows like this can be interesting.

Future of the Audience

this past weekend we finally had our long awaited showing of Hamlet at the Tank. I found several aspects of the show to be interesting, and was happy to finally see it being played out. However, as I was watching the show, i kept something very important in mind, something that we had been discussing in class for a while: the future of the audience. This show made me realize, by witnessing first hand, that the future of the audience really is evolving right before our eyes. Just at this showing alone, it was obvious just how true this statement is. The audience at the Tank was not simply the audience, but an integral part of the play. Through their smart phones, ipod touches, ipads, and numerous other forms of technology, the audience was able to CONTROL the play. It's crazy to think that an audience, a group of people who are supposed to sit back, relax, and watch the show, are in today's day in age participating in the show that they are watching. This only makes me wonder, just how much will the audience keep evolving? As technology grows, what will happen to the audience, what sort of options will they be given?

Project update

We're all currently working on our projects in class right now. The atmosphere in here is pretty interesting. Everyone is getting excited as the date approaches this weekend. We're finishing up our projects, putting the final touches together. We're all excited to see what everyone has been preparing, and even more excited for the after party that will follow. CAN'T WAIT!

What a great semester

Last Thursday we started our project, and if I don’t say so myself, it is looking pretty good. I can’t wait to show it off at The Tank. Currently we have about sixteen people in attendance.

It feels like this semester flew by in one minute. Just yesterday, we were in our old room in the library simply learning what the course had in store for us. I t has been a great journey, and one of the most fun classes I have had all semester. I even told my brother and sister to take this class next semester.

To further elaborate, I have never taken a theater class before and next semester will be my second because of the impression of this class. This class taught me to step outside of my comfort zone and to be more creative. Also, it taught me to work more independently without instruction.

In addition, I can’t wait for the after party to celebrate the end of an amazing course. I hope it will be a great time!

Final Project

Hamlet Project

News is something that affects everyone, and this seems to prove true as we work on our projects. The news reports on the Hamlet projects are intriguing, and add a bit more mystery to the famous Shakespearian play. Numerous times within our presentation, the audience is left not only wondering what will happen next, but also laughing. We added a sarcastic twist to the project in hopes of lightening the mood a bit in the dramatic play. As we continue to work on it, we constantly keep the audience in mind and hope that they will enjoy what we have prepared for them.

'Hamlet' project

As i work on this project, I am getting more and more excited for the actual show. I can not wait to show what my team and I have prepared, and truly hope that there is a large crowd to watch not only what my group, but what the others as well, have prepared. I like the fact that this project brings out our creative side, and allows us to think deeply about how we can turn such an old play into something modern, and in a way relate it to our lives today. It's an interesting twist to the usual projects assigned. Not only do we have to play around with 'Hamlet' and see how we can possibly change the plot around, but we get to work with all sorts of media, allowing us to expand our knowledge in how it works.
