Aaron D. Neufeld- BLOG #6- ‘Future Reflections’
Now focusing on the other part of what photographs hold in the future for me. Putting the viewing platform aside, and forgetting about the potential floating 4D hologram photo viewing experience (just an idea ha-ha), WHAT will my photos look like? Will I be looking at myself alone traveling and exploring the world? Will I be a fat old man sitting on my hover-rocking chair surrounded by my wife and children? It’s impossible to tell what the future has in store for any of us. Especially in today’s pink-collar society, who knows when I’ll be out of school, or when I’ll have a job? What if I leave the country to be successful? Perhaps I’ll marry and raise a family in South Africa? There is no way of telling.
It’s really exciting to think about what I’ll be looking back on. there is also the idea of how my photos will be taken. Will they be staged or will they be candid? Will I be wearing a “mask” to hide my reality for the photos? When I look back on my photos over my lifetime, will I be able to see the reality behind the photos, or will reality be masked by my smile? I’d hope to be able to capture the true feelings that lay behind the photos, but at the same time, I want pleasant photos to view.
After so much discussion over family photographs, family history, and the advancement of modern technology, I think taking a single photograph will be so different than it used to be. Whenever I appear in a photograph, I’ll consider what I’ll be looking back on. With today’s tech, the photo can last forever. What will I show my future self in the image?
