Catharsis

The concept of catharsis is pretty interesting. I think what Aristotle was trying to get at was the processes the character goes through to purge himself. In every tragedy, the characters recognize they have a demon or problem that they must rid themselves of. This ties into many themes. The fact that the character recognizes his problem and makes a conscious effort to change that deals with anagnorisis. The characters problem itself is normally a hamartia and above all else he must cleanse himself through a symbolic process of catharsis.
This is so relatable to society. Every human being has their own hamartias and demons, its just a matter of how we deal with them and what we do to shake them off. Some people ignore them, some resolve them, and others deal with them. Those who deal with them realize we have defects but that makes us who we are. This in itself is a process of catharsis because even though, those people havent rid themselves of their hamartias, they recognize them and keep them at check when they arise.
