"you can't handle the truth!!!!!"

Although Oedipus was searching for the truth behind the murder of the slain King Laius, he was not ready for the answer that was going to be revealed. After learning that he had killed his father and married his mother, Oedipus is in shock. In a fury he decides to kill himself until he is stopped by the sight of his mothers body hanging from a rope. It is now ironic that he had been searching for the killer of the slain king and was too blind to put the pieces together. However now that he has learned and seen the truth he decides to pluck out his own eyes because he can no longer handle the truth.
