Written texts are always evidence of a certain time period. They notify us about the events and happenings of that time period. Similarly, Shakespearean text always raises few eyebrows as to whether people really talked the way Shakespeare wrote. I think at that time it was hard to portray the true picture because of the censorship issues from the British crown. Hence, he wrote in a very different way so that his text doesn't raise issues.
We can see the same pattern these days too. Most of the rap artists works shows their true state of mind. Since they cant convey it in open they use their talent as a way to convey their message. And the public also likes this because people are pissed and they can easily connect with the songs and dances. This makes these songs very popular.
