Cursing

Today we were talking about cursing in class. Not that I love cursing, but sometimes it has its purpose. What better way to convey deep anger, than to curse? A good majority of people curse, and maybe people such as Eminem simply curse to relate to their audience. Going back to what I was saying, he also probably does it to show his audience how mad he is. His songs are about depressing memories, situations in his life that have pissed him off, and fighting adversity to get to where he is now in his life. You can't truly expect someone who never had a father in his life, had a pill addicted mother, and a generally dark childhood to write about unicorns and rainbows. We have to put things in perspective. Not only does he have a reason to use curse words but he also puts out a message.
For example: "My daughter's feet ain't got no shoes or socks on 'em, and them rings you wearin look like they got a few rocks on 'em, and while you flaunting them I could be taking them to shops to pawn them." This quote is from a song called Rock Bottom. These are REAL lyrics, and situations that happen to real people that he just wants to bring to light. There are people out there that do these things simply to put food on the table or buy a couple of diapers for there children. He's basically saying while this guy wears his watch and doesn't even truly appreciate it, I could sell it and get a little money just to put socks on my little girl's feet. I'm not advocating this, but these are the grave things some people have to resort to in some places. Songs like these make me truly grateful for the life I have and maybe that was his goal...to write a song that made people realize they really don't have it that bad.
