Organic Chemistry

Is one of my favorite science subjects out of all time, in fact probably the most favorite one ever (although Inorganic is up there too). In organic, you really get to see how common are some of the chemicals that you put on your hair (Shampoo), how you clean the stains off those dirty clothes (detergents) or how the drugs you take are synthesized (anything from aspirin to anti-AIDS medicine). As compared to other subjects, in organic you really see the direct real-world application to them, something I believe is severly lacking in other courses. Students today need to know how this will be of use to them later, especially in this economy where any skill you can acquire will be valuable to your job and your future - going on for something nonsensical for an extended period of time will at best, only serve to waste your time and will probably be forgotten. We always had examples in organic of where this compound was coming from, whether it was the compound in the soil that gives it an "earthy smell" after a rain or even a sex attractant for a fly!
