Quality vs. Saving Space: The Internet Superhighway
Today in class, the professor was talking about how we need to make our files as small as possible to "get off the superhighway". While I do agree that this is applicable for some cases, I'm one of those guys that will send a completely uncompressed file just because I hate losing any quality, even if my file size is gigantic. This is why I got a 1 TB hard drive, because I know I will eventually fill it with my huge, uncompressed files. I remember reading an article about how music is being overly compressed these days, and because of this, when DJ's or w/e try to turn up the sound, it sounds very crinkly because that represents a loss of information. A few studio's are even starting to record back to analog now because even in the digital age, some people still love the feel and quality of analog discs. While I do agree that the "analog sound feel" is not present in digitial, there are several sound effects and tricks to add that. In addition, what happens when you lose that disc? It's gone..That's it. as compared to digital where you can copy, and manipulate it at any will.
