After reading Roswetha I found myself a little confused. Even though I found the concept of the play confusing I enjoyed the play as well. It was written in a much more concise language and was very entertaining to read.
I found the play to be confusing at first because I didn’t quite understand d what the guards were doing when they were rubbing the dirty pots and pans over their body. After further questioning I found that the guard was pretending to rape the three girls. Were the girls that gorgeous that he had to do that?
Furthermore, I think that this play is describing the relationship between males and female. For instance, men always want sex while the women on the other hand use their sex to get what they want. To further elaborate, I believe that the women knew that they would be able to escape because of their beauty. Maybe it was their fate, and that fate can’t be changed?
On a side note, I think the guard’s hamartia was his gender. As males, we are physically and mentally programmed to want sex; I feel that it was this flaw alone that caused the women to escape.
