This Picture that Caught My Eye

As I am browsing the Facebook website, I come across my friend’s profile. I click on it to view her pictures. She has taking some pretty awesome pictures. However, there is this one picture that stands out more than all the rest. It is so beautiful to me. When I laid eyes on this particular image, I was in awe, amazed by the contrasting colors, details of the image, and the meaning behind the picture.

This image was of the entire right side a woman’s face. On her face, in make-up, was a detailed picture of the Haitian flag. Her eye is closed and three tear drops are falling from her eye, over the flag. The picture has so much meaning behind it. It can be interpreted in many different ways whether you experienced a similar tragedy or you empathize with the victims of a similar tragedy. That’s what makes the image so beautiful.

In the beginning of this year Haiti had suffered a record breaking horrific earthquake that threatened the lives of millions and took the lives of thousands. The Haitian flag on the woman’s cheek represents Haiti, itself. The tears in this image represent the hurt and pain suffered from those family members of the people who were in the earthquake. It is human nature to cry when you feel pain whether it be internal or external. But the tears can also represent the earthquake. The earthquake threatened lives of people in Haiti like the tear is threatening to wipe the Haitian flag off the woman’s cheek.
