Fate

Fate is a very eniment theme in a good amount of our readings. In Oedipus he was bound by his fate because he sleep with his mother and killed his father. This fate of his was tragic, but in that tragedy we can relate to another movie we saw in class, Onibaba. In Onibaba she was simply trying to teach her daughter in law a lesson but in doing so she sealed her fate. Her mask was stuck to her and when it finally came off she was doomed to live a life with a burnt and scarred face. In trying to accomplish one thing they manage to achieve the opposite. In trying to escape his fate, Oedipus simply ran into fates clutches, doing exactly what the prophecy fortold. Similarly, in Onibaba, the mother was just trying to teach the other girl a lesson and eventually ended up learning a lesson herself.
