So my mother and I definitely have our strange conversations and we have our difference of opinions but this one stuck in my head. I meant to write about this earlier but I completely forgot until a couple minutes ago.
My mother was told a friend of her coworkers (or someone they were acquainted with) was just arrested for possession of child pornography. The "friend" happened to be a young doctor I believe so as far as his medical career is concerned... well it's over. His license was taken away and I highly doubt he'll be able to get it reinstated. Anyway, my mother told me it was a shame his license was taken away because he did "something stupid." Apparently he opened a file that had some type of tracer on it and this file had a name that clearly indicated it contained child pornography so it couldn't have been an "oops I didn't know" moment. I guess my mother felt bad for him in a way but I think he he deserved it.
I explained to her that that child pornography was pictures of someone's exploited child and since my brother is 6 if anyone exploited him she'd probably go after them. It wouldn't matter if they had a license to practice medicine, were multimillionaires or were a random person off the street; jail wouldn't have been a bad enough punishment for them. I guess she saw the light after I explained it in those terms and agreed.
Most parents do no want their grown children involved in porn let alone their young children. Personally, I'm all for "do whatever floats your boat" but when it comes to most things but I think this is sick. My brother and James's kids are all under the age of 10 so I can't imagine something like that happening to either of them. The definition of a typical childhood has changed but even then, this is horrible. I get Pottery Barn Kids magazines (God knows why) and I see kids playing in sand boxes, running around outside, camping and fishing. That's how kids should grow up, no parent should have to worry about someone snatching their child off the street.
Sadly, as long as there's a demand for it it will be available. It's sad that doctor screwed over his life but in the end, he chose to do it and I hope it was worth it... though I doubt it was.
