Drinking Coffee Everyday

I never drank coffee consistently in my life until I was about eighteen or nineteen years old. I did not and still do not enjoy drinking coffee or tea so much. Part of the reason is because it takes time to buy it or make it. Besides, people tend to eventually become dependent on coffee or tea at some point. It all started during my freshmen year of college when there were days that I felt very tired and sleepy during the day. That is when I started to drink tea and coffee time to time. It does help me stay awake and feel less tired but by the afternoon or evening I start to feel tired and sleepy again.

Seven to eight hours of sleep seems to keep me up and awake during the day without feeling tired or sleepy. For some reason, I just don’t get to bed until like 2 A.M. and wake up at 7:30 A.M. for class. That’s when by 12 P.M. I start to feel very tired and sleepy and drink a medium size cup of coffee to keep myself from feeling sluggish. I can still manage to get by without drinking coffee but it is hard to do work or pay attention when I feel sleepy. Some days I feel so tired that I think that if I don’t drink coffee “now”, I am going to fall asleep while I am sitting in the chair. My eye lids start to shut even if I try to keep them open and that’s when I feel like I don’t have a choice and so I drink coffee to keep my eyes open.

As I am typing this blog, however, I am not feeling tired or sleepy and do not feel the urge to buy/drink coffee at all because I had eight hours of sleep. During the weekdays I only get about five to six hours of sleep and sometimes less than five hours. During Friday night and the weekends I “catch up” and sleep for eight hours and don’t even think about drinking coffee. I actually drink coffee reluctantly because I think that as long as I get enough sleep I don’t need it but it just happens to be that I don’t get enough sleep during weeknights and feel tired during the day and end up drinking coffee to stay awake.

I think that lots of people don’t sleep enough or just don’t have enough time to sleep for more than six hours every night. That’s probably one of the main reasons many people drink coffee besides drinking it because it is part of their habit.
