Onibaba and Patriarchy

In this movie there are a lot of metaphors. Another significant metaphor I believe is prevalent in this movie is mask itself. I think the mask itself represents evil. It sort of ties into the biblical Adam and Eve story where a woman eats the forbidden apple and brings evil into the world. Just like Eve this mother couldn't control the need to satisfy her curiousity and brought upon herself something she couldn't answer or really control. Even after she saw how the mask left the man that was wearing it, she still felt the need to put it on. In the story of Adam and Eve, God warned both Adam and Eve about the the tree of knowledge, yet Eve too couldn't resist. These things add to the whole idea of the patriarchal society and how back then women were second class citizens, sort of because ignorant men back then believed they were the Pandoras that brought evil into the world.
