Another creation of Napolean's that I find extremely interesting. Not only does he set up a kind of society guideline, he plays a major influence in the fashion world as well. A basic tailored suit was under his influence?
The suit is such a big role in our day to day lives now. When we have somewhere important to go, an interview, a wedding, anything we suit up. The suit and tailor of it hasn't changed much throughout the ages, maybe some hemlines or color lines but the basic structure of it has remained the same. It is a sign of wealth and establishment in a career whether it be business or entertainment wise.
Does anyone watch the show "How I met your mother"? There is a character in the show by the name of Barney that always wears a suit. It's a sign for him of status and importance, even his pajamas are tailored as a silk suit. He is constantly "suiting up" and is rarely ever seen in anything other than suits. Without it he feels vulnerable. In a way it can be seen as a shield as well as a cage. It's the male version of a mask. It's a shield to hide behind from degrading looks in a professional setting and a cage when it comes to the uniformed look that men can't seem to escape from.
