The F-Bomb

Today in lecture, Professor Baldwin accidently slipped out the forbidden "F-word." He quickly realized what he was saying and tried to cover it up. So my question to all of you is this: Does this word actually offend any of you? I have grown up in a family of "potty mouths" and i have grown accustomed to hearing these curse words. I try not to, but sometimes one of them slips out into a conversation I am having. I can't say much for other people's beliefs or customs, but I can say that I am not bothered by it.

So now this raises another question: What makes these words so bad? Who was the first person to say, "Wait a minute! 'Fuck' sounds like a bad word. I shouldn't use that anymore." I hope someone can enlighten me as to how the origins of the curse words came about.

Maybe some have you have seen an episode of 'South Park' that deals with this issue. The boys hear the word "shit" being said on television. It becomes being used in everyday life as an acceptable word. Suddenly people start getting sick and dying. It is later learned that saying curse words once in a while is fine, but using them in excess can have extreme effects. I would post a clip of this episode, but it might violate the code of conduct so I'll refrain from doing so.
