Learning mistakes the hard way

I've went back to the city recently to spend time with my friends, hanging out late and breaking nights. Though I had a lot of fun being around my friends, there is this one terrifying event that I would never forget. On Sunday morning around 6am after breaking night with my friends, we've decided to drive from Manhattan to Brooklyn to eat breakfast. Once we got out of the Manhattan bridge, everyone should know there is this wide curve on the far right side where cars are able to turn to head to another bridge. I was sitting in my friends car right behind the driver with another two friends of mine.. My friend, Brian (a reckless driver since he speed most of the time) end up missing the turn and decides to turn his steering wheel all the way--thinking he was able to make the turn.. instead, we ran right onto a curve wall--nearly got the car flip cause his front left tire came off and the bottom left tire got messed up... The car sorta tilt about 30 degrees from the floor and landed back on all four wheels and then end up running onto the opposite wall... crazy ass experience but thank god everyone was fine and no one was injured. While this was happening, our friends from the other car was terrified, got out of their car and ran to us to see if we were fine... Brian got out of the car to check up on his car and that was when it finally hit him... he realize he got three other friend's life in his hand&he knew he should not have been so careless ... WOW BRIAN, WAY TO REALIZE THIS THE HARD WAY... This incident relates to Oedipus because Oedipus also learned his mistakes the hard way... (although once again, I am not bashing on Oedipus about his behavior and actions.. all im trying to do is compare him to my friend) If Oedipus did not kill Laius in the first place (whether hes the king or not), Oedipus wouldn't have to face any consequences and there would be a slight chance he would not have became Jocasta's (his mother) husband. Oedipus learned his mistakes the hard way--his mistake of being a murderer.
