The philosopher Tirisius who humiliated Oedipus in front of Chorus knew about the truth of Laius' death by Oedipus and the whole marriage scheme. Then why he didn't know speak out the truth? It could've saved the city. But, he refuses to speak and asks Oedipus to abandon the search.
Doesn't it sound familiar? When an elderly person who knows the consequences still doesn't stop us. And by the time they intervene its too late. Remember Junior & Senior High when curiosity was at peak and we tried random stuff that we weren't supposed to. Well our parents easily smelled the fish frying. But, they thought we'll give up on our own. That was their mistake. They should have stopped us. Some of us crossed the limits and ended up in trouble. Then they tried to fix it but it was too late.
Elders must bring themselves forward and give us the information that will help us stay away from problems
