BLIND (Continued)

During class today, we were mentioning about Oedipus and him being "blind" and him stabbing his eyes out back stage... while we were talking about this, I was thinking "wait.. this has something to do with what I've mentioned in my previous post". Blind? Oedipus ripping his eyes out? The fact that Oedipus ripped his eyes out during backstage might symbolize the idea of him "being blind all this time and not realizing what was right in front of him". Oedipus ripping his eyes out also symbolizes the idea of him--or his perspective of his life being useless? Perhaps? I mean... if I'm not mistaken, that might be the reason why Oedipus ripping/stabbing his eyes out instead of doing something else like jumping out of the window or hanging himself whatsoever. Secondly, we've also mentioned about the difference between crazy and death... and one of the students mentioned something about how death is something we choose to commit and craziness is something that happens without us controlling it--something similar to that... In this case, Oedipus' mother seem to go with the death situation where she wants to end her life because she can not continue to live her life from the mistake she'd committed & because of the fact that she's now the wife of her own son and started a family with him. Oedipus, on the other hand turns crazy in a way-- because from what I believe, stabbing his eyes shows that he is not in the right state of mind (craziness)& can't really end his life right on the spot.
