Computers vs. Museums

We had a discussion is class today about how everything on the computer is pixels but everything in museums are tangible objects. This brings a question to my mind. What if we eliminated museums all together and put all of those objects online so people could take tours through museums online. At first glance, this seems like a great idea but after thinking it over there are many flaws to it. Everything that is on your computer screen is nothing but pixels. Computers are made up of various pixels that come together to form digital images. If museums were solely online, how would we know that the objects we view are real? What if an object was created in photoshop and put in the online museum. The museums that we go to in person provide us with proof that these objects that we are viewing exist. Real museums provide verification that online museums could never provide. The point I'm try to get across is that despite the fact that we are going through a technological revolution and new forms of technology are emerging every day, this does not mean that there is no use for non-technological things such as museums.
