Faith and Future

As we go through life it is evident that we are bound to run into some problems along the way. When we are faced with particular hardships we often look to others to help us fix the issue and generally avoid solving it on our own. It is as if we never have enough faith in ourselves to mend our own issues, which will affect our future in either a big way or small. We look to those beside us, whether it be a family member, a friend, or even the president of the united States, hoping that they can in some way guide us to the correct path. But who's to say that they possess the answer to our future? Aren't we all humans, each dealing with our very own problems as we go through life?
The same issue arose in Oedipus Rex. The city of Thebes was cursed with a plague, and the people were in great despair. Instantly, they went to Oedipus, their king, to solve the issue for them, thinking that because he has the title of "King" that he must have the answer. However, little did they know, that Oedipus was just an ordinary person, just like them, dealing with his own issues. All along, the people had it within themselves to solve the obstacle, but what they lacked was faith.
We all posses the power to guide our own futures, but it is up to us to gain the faith and knowledge that will allow us to make the proper corrections. We can not constantly rely on others to answer questions for us, but rather, we must make our own amends, and learn from them in the process.
