Feel Proud or Embarrassed??

Hey everyone, I got a really serious thought today about accessories of, mostly, women but also men. All of us know big brand names such as Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Bulgari,Gucci, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Helmes....etc.

They are expensive; that's why we classified these are luxury goods. Fabulous belongings are attractive because they have a symbolic function that the owners of these products have achieved certain accomplishments (I assumed, and in most cases), so as to provide a higher social status to the users. However, we have seen so many young adults who are college students use these famous and extravagant brand name products. Do these luxury goods signify their social status? Maybe yes, at least people would think the families of these young adults can afford a $1000 handbag. Yet, we will not see the personal achievements of these young adults. Most of all because of their professions are not yet generating the real money for them.

To the more extreme case, I have seen tons and tons of OLs holding a nice and expensive handbag on the train, the bus, or in the subway crowding with hundreds of strangers on the way to their offices in the morning. They had to have saved up part of their incomes every month before buying these luxurious accessories or they even had to skip their lunches or dinners to save up these bloody money. BUT! Does it worth of doing all these to buy a little impractical bag or handbag or whatever??? To all those people who have ever done these for the brand name products, and especially to those who have held these products to work, still, by taking the public transportations... Did that so-called luxurious social status symbol make you feel ironic instead of proud???

These so-called social status does exist since the Jurassic era.. however, this is not what we should pay attention to as a young adult. Our self-recognitions are not based on other external materials but our knowledge, our own identities, and of who we are.

If we are worth of being appreciated, if not admired, we will still be appreciated without having these commercial products. After all, if you still want to own, at least, one of these symbolic overpriced goods, here is the best one out of all those out there..

They feed you..
