DIFFERENT

Yesterday in class we discussed how society looks down upon trannies. Whereas some societies accept them for who they are, many others, including our very own, tend to look down upon their somewhat unusual characteristics. We snarl at them, as if they weren't people, all because they choose to be individuals, and separate themselves from what everyone else considers to be "right".
Sadly, trannies aren't the only people that our society belittles. Anytime we see an individual that doesn't fit the mold of society we automatically look at them as if they were crazy. We mock them and refuse to treat them with equal respect. This sort of behavior is directed towards people such as lesbians, homosexuals, transgenders, differing races, people who choose to dress differently, people with a physical disability, people with a mental disability, and so on.
One of the main problems of today is that the public automatically judges people based on their appearance, rather than getting to know the individual first. We let ones outer feature determine whether this person is good or bad, funny or smart. If we constantly continue to do this, we may let some amazing people slip through our lives. It's time to take the initiative and change societies way of perceiving people. We are all humans, living in the same world, and we each respect equal opportunities in life.
