Cyworld vs Facebook

We’ve talked about the social networking website, Cyworld and Facebook in the class. Cyworld and Facebook are the popular website to socialize with people online in Korea and the US. I’m using both for networking with my friends online.

Cyworld is more complicated than Facebook. Cyworld has to run their own small homepage by creating the homepage with pictures, back ground music, personal bulletin board, and videos. And, people can make friendship which is called ‘il-chon’ to look around each other’s homepage. Their own homepage is the way to show what they are doing and what they feel about these days. In addition, the top of the mini homepage shows how many friends visit their homepage. It could be a sign to show how I’m popular among my friends. On the other hand, Facebook is much easier by adding friends and posting photos. And I can be known what my friends are doing and feeling these days.

I sometimes think if I really need this social networking online. Posting photos and what I feel at that time is time-consuming. That’s why I sometimes close my homepage or wall when I don’t want to spend time with these things. Do I really need this for making a good relationship with my friends? No, I don’t think so. It is the way to show how many friends and people I know online, not real relationship.
